A Dialogue With K: What’s on your desk?

  • Meeyagirl · 3 years ago
how neat! as in neat na clean and neat na cool! :) i have nothing on my desk kasi if i leave anything on it, it's guaranteed to disappear due to my daughter's ever questing hands. :)
  • duke · 3 years ago
Wow! I agree with meeya. Your esk is so neat. Mine is empty and so boring. I only have a pathetic pen holder and the pc itself!

I'm intrigued with that Bali Home Furniture Book. Where do you get them?
  • rho · 3 years ago
Your desk is so neat!--better than what i can say for mine! Bench body spray!! Love that stuff! I was so happy when Bench opened a branch out here!
  • Asha · 3 years ago
Yes K, neat desk you have and the wooden doll looks pretty.

Space is at a premium in HK. My desk is a giant contraption from Ikea. I have 3 computers on it with 3 lcd screens. It takes up a good portion of my office. I have about 3 lamps on it, pens, headsets, ipod, atlec lansing speakers, phone, an old dvd burner. Underneath my desk I have a HP Enterprise 4000 series laser color printer, scanner, fax, two chairs because my desk has actually space for two workstations, some bamboo plants, camera, my xbox360 remote, dvd-rs of all my recent movies, some books that I plan to read over the next few weeks.

Ooooh! Nice desk you have there K! I'm beginning to feel the ambience in your apartment. I also have a water plant in my desk, the flowing water thingy. Sometimes, when I'm doing or reading something, the sound of the flowing water puts me to sleep.

A few years back, my mom bought me a handicrafted tropical fish motion lamp, the one with music. But I never used it at all. Speaking of post-its, I've been using them for quite a long time. I'm very forgetful these days. In fact, I also have a whiteboard, in case if I forgot to look at the daily things to do in the post its. Hayyy, I'm really getting old.

god, i want to say it (being an obssessive-compulsive freak) but everyone has already said it! Damn! Your desk is soooo neat!!!! Although, the Fab 5 will kill you for that lava lamp on your asian-inspired desk-slash-vignette. I missed you, k!!!!
  • K · 3 years ago
Hahah Meeya, I totally agree about having kids in the house. But I don't really mind my nephews coming to my flat and use it as a playground unless no one touches my laptop, I'd be fine. I only hope my desk sits infront of a window. My flat is rather too small and I have many cluttered stuff around. I need a yaya for the other chores, that is laundrying.

"I’m intrigued with that Bali Home Furniture Book."

DYMOCKS. I've been a constant visitor to these book store and you can easily find me standing at the Architectures shelves flippin thru the gardening, houses, furnitures mostly minimalist houses & the beautiful Bali houses.

I wanted my dream house to look like that, tropical balinese infront of the ocean on top of a hill. Asteg diba?
  • K · 3 years ago
I'd rather find it weird that we don't have BENCH shops here considering Manila is just right "across the pacific", although few pinoy shops sells items from BENCH, unfortunately their collections are considered rubbish.
  • K · 3 years ago
Sawasdee, Asha. I usually treasure a keepsake from friends. Considered myself a 'ratpack'. I'm also a fan of the Tibetan BUDDHA head handmade statue or the one from India. I want everything like that in case I built my dream house.

I can picture yourself a "geek" person.

But true about HK. It's great to see every residential is high rise in Hong Kong but honestly, I live in a box but aside from the lack of space, the quality of some residential flats ain't that bad. Mine is too small, a bachelor's flat would cost me 30% of my monthly salary. Then again, it's very convenient to anything close to a train station, shopping, public, recreation, education facilities so close even the services are available within 5mins of where I live and probably not found in most city around the world. However as you can say it does have its drawbacks, it's over-dense but it's a place with so much to love and hate at the same time. I've lived here for quite a while now and I can pretty much understand that.
  • K · 3 years ago
I'm no fan of the post-it really as I tend to forget everything written on it. I moved this desk during my blog "hiatus". I do these every once in a while to get the feel of the "chi" in the flat. I don't know what you expect in a tiny flat, but avoiding the cluttered objects can make it look bigger.

My yaya used to take care of the plants from my former apartment dahil may maliit na terrace but now that I moved to a smaller apartment, plants can be very suffocating.

But oh, one that is missing in my apartment is a big cabinet, at least a nice storage for my chinelas. I hate the humidity here so major cleaning every week is rather a must.
  • K · 3 years ago
    I missed you, k!!!!

Ouch. Seriously, ouch that's sweet. I'll make it up to you - been absent most of these days in all the blogs I frequent.

Mali ba yung lava lamp sa desk? Bahala na sya basta may ilaw. Ala kasi akong lampshade hehehe.
  • Pep · 3 years ago
    Wow. So tidy!
My desk is under a mound of paper, I need a homing device to find my laptop sometimes!

    :)
  • K · 3 years ago
I've put away the ashtray and the coffee mug somewhere so it actually turned out something like that hehehe.

Share what's on your table, Pep.
  • Carol · 3 years ago
Man,it will take me a while to order my desk for a shot and it will be too filled up with gadgets to be able to see something.
Your desk is so clean and ordered.Nice!
  • Jack Yan · 3 years ago
Man, you are tidy! My desk has stuff going back years!
  • Jason Drohn · 3 years ago
Wow.. I have coffee cups, stacks of recordable cds and dvds, papers, notbooks.. I really have to ask though, how many power strips or extensions do you have there??
  • Pep · 3 years ago
OK, you asked for it. Aside from the paper mountain, I have: a vase of lillies, a vase of assorted flowers, a bunch of DVD's, pencils, Canon A620, iPod, car keys, peroxide for my hair, my kickboxing blackbelt, assorted PC cables, my K750i, a wallet (empty), a Me-To-You cuddly bear, straws, play-doh and silica-gel (??). Above my desk on the wall is a huge reproduction of Salvador Dali's Christ of St John on the Cross.

    :)
  • dez · 3 years ago
i am envious of how neat your desk looks! my desk both at home and at work are absolute fire hazards. gah.
  • range · 3 years ago
    Hi K!
I remembered what model my desk is. It's the Galant from Ikea. Yeah, I might be a bit computer savvy, but that's because I studied Computer Science in university. One good thing though, I don't play any video games on my computer. I have an XBOX360 to do that and I haven't used it since April.

Other than that, all is well.
  • Lyka Bergen · 3 years ago
Can I have the stuff No. 16? Pwedeng buhayin yan kung gabi! Ching!
  • K · 3 years ago
Carol, I can imagine your desk. Hahaha, I want, one day to have all those gadgets, XBOX in a large desk, which includes flat plasma screen, etc.

My desk is nothing in it but rubbish huh? Hey, for as long as my broadband is on, I'm ok with it.
  • K · 3 years ago
A vintage desk you mean Jack? The problem with my desk is that it's too "low", I have a hard time sitting in a business like position. It's actually a drawer desk for my t-shirts but since I downsized to fit other stuff in my flat, I didn't actually choose a better desk.
  • K · 3 years ago
I think I have few extensions, for my lava lamp, speakers, laptop, broadband (I don't have a router for wireless) and for my iPod. I hate the wires, if you want to see the back/under the desk, the spaghettit wires are cramming with each other.
  • K · 3 years ago
    "...a Me-To-Yo cuddly bear, straws, play-doh and silica-gel (??)."

What are those? Now I'm curious. Your kickboxing gloves suppose to be in your desk too? Ahhh, to remind yourself incase you stayed online all day and forget your training.
  • K · 3 years ago
Hahaha dez, just make sure your desk always equipped with the fire extinguisher in case fire occurred if you're staying online 24/7.
  • K · 3 years ago
No wonder you have all the gadgets. I've been thinking of that XBOX but the problem is, I don't play "video games" (not even on my laptop).

The nice tables at IKEA have designs for tiny rooms/apartment that's why I like to go there and look for the ideal desk but I've seen your Vlog and you really have a neat desk there.
  • K · 3 years ago
    Salbahe! Hahaha.
  • Carol · 3 years ago
If i arrange it nice and free up the space,i will have one cool desk.My desk needs defragmentation.Lmao!
But as Jason,i also have coffee cups all over, sticky notes, calendars, pens(yes i still use those because i have memory problems),...
And talk about cables...oh i've got so many of them.
  • range · 3 years ago
Yeah thanks, I wonder if it will fit in my new place. Ah well, no biggy, change is life. Life is change.
  • Jack Yan · 3 years ago
It’s a modern desk, K, but I have crap from months ago buried under piles of paper! But I would seriously look at your ergonomics. Better to spend a few dollars now and fix it than have serious, expensive back problems later in life. I really am serious.
  • Pep · 3 years ago
    Haha, K!
OK, a Me-To-Yo cuddly bear - a lovely, tiny, grey bear.
Straws - don't know why they were there, for the kids drinks I guess.
Play-doh - so that the kids can mold silly shapes, and get it all sticky on the carpet!
Silica-gel - I think this came out of packaging to keep the new shoes I'd bought nice and free from moisture.
My belt was due to the fact that I had arrived from k.boxing that night.

Talk to you soon, a mi amigo. :)
  • Mitchell · 2 years ago
My son has a red lava lamp like yours! Same company
I believe. Hey, have you had to change the light bulb on that thing yet? If the glass part unscrews off, ours is on hard enough that I'm afraid I'll break trying to find out. You know how it opens? Ours looks like its from 'Lava Motion'.

    Thanks!
  • K · 2 years ago
I replaced the bulb twice, it was very easy. Remove the bottle out from the stand holder, loosen the bulb from inside and presto - it's like replacing a bulb from your lampshade as easy as that.
  • kengkay · 2 years ago
awws, super organized; parang gusto kong alisin yung pringles sa workplace ko, hahaha!
  • K · 2 years ago
Kenks, it was over a year now so, some of those are no longer there. IBM has been replaced with MAC and my desk is white. I will take a new shot next time, mas cluttered na ngayon.
  • ris · 2 years ago
i like your desktop k. it's so... neat, in both senses of the word :)
